Media Forms

A motion picture, movie, or film can be recognized as a series of pictures or images on film projected on a screen in rapid succession. The idea of a motion picture was first developed through inventions called the phenakistoscope and the zoetrope, which showed a series of images in motion. These inventions then helped produce the idea of using people instead of drawings to create movement and motion. By 1880, the motion picture camera was invented and was able to capture several minutes of footage on one reel of film. This then led to people creating films as an occupation, as well as, actors in the films. Today we recognized movies as a source of entertainment, and an artistic medium. Motion pictures can be informative and entertaining all at once. This form of media is important to society because it allows the viewer to be engaged in stories and events through visual representation.

The newspaper is a periodical publication, which contains current events, advice columns, weather reports, advertising, and many more. The newspaper was first recognized in Ancient Rome where announcements were carved in either metal or stone, and then were posted in public places. This concept of communicating with many people through text then spread to Europe where handwritten newssheets were distributed. This method continued until the 19th century where many cities throughout the world produced newspaper- type publications. Then in 1814, The Times in London began using a printing press to publish their newspapers. This then led to what newspaper are today. The printing press allowed the newspaper to be made and distributed much faster and more efficiently, and allowed any news to be communicated throughout cities.
